1. What is the best time to visit Tam Coc?
Late May to early June is the golden season when the rice fields are vibrant yellow. However, be prepared for hot and humid tropical weather. Alternatively, you can visit in June/July for the Lotus season, or September/October to see water lilies blooming on the river in cooler autumn temperatures.
2. Are your boat tours suitable for beginners or non-swimmers?
Absolutely. Our sampan boat rides are slow, peaceful, and do not require any swimming skills. Life jackets are provided on every boat for your safety. Sit back, relax, and let our experienced local rowers navigate the river for you.
3. What should I bring for a boat tour in Tam Coc?
We recommend bringing:
Light, comfortable clothing
A hat or umbrella for sun protection
Sunscreen and insect repellent
A camera or phone for photos
A reusable water bottle
- Small cash (VND) if you wish to tip your hardworking rower at the end of the trip.
4. Are your tours suitable for children or elderly travelers?
Yes! Tam Coc boat tours are ideal for families, kids, and older travelers. The ride is smooth and quiet, and the scenery is enjoyable for all ages. The only physical requirement is stepping down into the metal boat, but our guides and rowers are always there to lend a steady hand.
However, we recommend avoiding midday tours during the hottest hours.
5. What’s included in the tour price?
Because we offer a wide range of experiences across Ninh Binh, the exact inclusions depend on the specific package you choose. However, our standard day tours and combo packages typically include:
All entrance fees and boat tickets for the destinations listed in your itinerary (Tam Coc, Trang An, Mua Cave, Cuc Phuong, etc.)
Transportation: Comfortable transfers (private car, shuttle, or bicycles) as outlined in the tour.
Expert Guide: An English-speaking local guide who knows the region inside out.
Meals: Authentic local lunch (if included in your specific itinerary).
Essentials: Bottled water on board/in the vehicle.
Please note that personal expenses, optional add-ons, and tips for your rowers/guides are not included. We highly recommend checking the “Inclusions & Exclusions” section on your specific tour page for the exact details.
6. How big are your tour groups?
Our group tours max out at 10 people to keep the experience intimate. However, please note that each local sampan boat holds a maximum of 2 adults (standard for international travelers). If you are a family or a larger group, you will be split across multiple boats navigating the river together.
7. What happens in case of bad weather?
Tours still operate during light rain. Umbrellas are provided on the boats for sun protection or light rain.
In case of severe weather (flooding or storms), we may cancel or reschedule for safety. You’ll be notified as early as possible and offered alternative options or a full refund.
8. Do I need to book in advance?
We highly recommend booking in advance, especially during weekends or the rice season (May – June), as boats can be limited. You can book directly at tamcocboattours.com.
9. How can I make payment?
You can pay online via credit card, bank transfer, or in cash on arrival (for select tours). A small deposit may be required to confirm your booking.
10. What is your cancellation and refund policy?
